Y axis belt length

I am currently assembling a prusa mk2 kit that arrived in January 2017. When assembling the belt on the y axis I find that when the belt is tightened to adequate tension there is much more excess belt leaving the belt holder than is shown in setup image 31. When the stage approaches the end stop this excess belt winds into the y motor pulley and stops the stage from smoothly reaching the end stop. I have the belt currently fitted so that equal amounts of this excess belt leave the belt holder from each side but the problem persists. In the instructions it specifically states not to cut the belt so I assume it is manufactured to be the correct length. Is this a common issue? Should I go ahead and trim the belt so it's excess length resembles that in the step 31 image?

Answer this question I have this problem too

I had the same issue too, but i didn't want to trim the belt (to be able to tight it again if needed). So i let likely nothing on the motor side (only 2 teeth) and on the other side the excess do not enter in the pulley.

You can also trim it i think... if you do not plan to disassemble it ;)

I had this same problem, I just used an extra zip tie to hold the excess out of the way, but now that I have maybe 120 hours of printing on it, I see no reason not to just trim it shorter.

However my belt has destroyed itself (possibly a bad print got jammed in it and flipped the belt over??? and I am looking to buy a new belt and can't seem to find a direct link to just buy one :(

I know that this is a kind of "GT" belt, something like GT2 (the number is the width of a tooth in mm). It's easy to find on french market but maybe it's because this is millimeter standard and not inch ?

Thanks, I ended up ordering GT2 6mm wide belt from Amazon, will see on Wednesday if it fits or not. After an hour searching the web and finally talking to prusa rep, Prusa wanted 25 dollars in shipping to get me the belt (I live in USA) so Amazon was the better choice for me... https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00XLG...
