List of Printable Parts Required for MK2 to MK2S Upgrade

Is there a list of the printable parts required for the MK2 to MK2S upgrade. I have downloaded the MK2S STL files but it contains all STLs for the printer. Which of these STLs is needed just for the upgrade. I want to generate my own gcodes instead of using the mk2s_upgrade_gcodes.zip.

Hi Jeff,

for upgrade to MK2S there are two groups of parts:

1) Important

New X-Carriage (ABS)

New Extruder body (ABS)

Y-motor-distance (ABS)

Cable holders (PETG)

2) Optional

Rambo cover (PETG)

If you are experienced enough you can create your own G-codes, but I would recommend using ours, since it is tweaked for best print results. The choice is however yours ;)

Please mark this answer as solution, so the thread gets closed.

Thanks

Can all of this be printed in PETS or should I order some ABS / PLA?

@sniperfpv you should be ok with PET for all the parts, however, the G-codes are prepared for ABS, so you need to create your own from STL files.

Hi Jakub. Thanks for the information. The reason I need to create my own G-codes is that I damaged my print bed so only half of it will heat. I have received a replacement bed but I only want to take it apart once to do the MK2S upgrade. I will trying creating my own g-code files and printing. If that does not work then I will have to take it apart twice.

Hi Jeff, sound reasonable. Good luck with your print and reassembly ;)

Having bad luck printing from G-code file, would like to try one part at a time. Can you share settings (tweaks) you use to create them? Can any of these parts be done with PLA or is ABS required? I have much better success with PLA.

Prusa supplies enough ABS to be able to print the parts out twice. Since it is not mandatory to change the electronics enclosure, which is printed in PETG, they supply the cable holders. So really all you need to print is the ABS parts, but I highly reccomend buying a spool of PETG and printing out the new electronics enclousre. Before the wires for the extruder would run on the back of the build plate for me, but it is working fine for me now.

Hi Jeff,

I have just printed the upgraded parts, and took a photo of them so you can see for yourself:

Block Image

The two larger parts are the x-carriage (left) and extruder body (right), and the small part on the far right (just visible) is the y-motor-distance, though I currently cannot find what it is used for! I used the gcode file downloaded from the Prusa website, as it is ready to go and has added supports for corners.

Just have to wait now until the upgrade kit arrives.

Hi Nic. Thanks for the picture and information. This is helpful as I now see I need to add supports for the corners.

Hi all,

it is possible to buy the printed parts?

by

Denis: The upgrade kit actually contains enough filament to print the parts. So if that was the concern, you need not worry.

I received my upgrade kit last week and have now upgraded my printer to a MK2S. I think it is definitely worth doing - the bed is much more robust with the U-bolts, and there is practically no sideways movement.

The parts I printed fitted really well with little adjustment. However, I noticed that the drill bit sent with the upgrade kit was a 3.5mm, which I think is a bit too big. I used a 3mm instead and found that the U-bolts fitted really well. Just thought I'd share that.

@Steve, my problem was that my printer was not able to correctly print the ABS parts :( now everything is fine, I unmounted everything, remounted again and it works great
