What is the difference between multi material hotend and direct drive

I want to know what the difference is between the hontends used for the multi material upgrade and the standard hotend on the direct drive of the MK2 S?

Hi Andre,

the differences are following:

MK2/S uses an E3D V6 hotend, 50 mm PTFE tube and one pulley pressing against 625 bearing

MK2/S MMU uses an E3D V6 hotend, 41 mm PTFE tube and a couple of Bondtech gears

There is also a difference, that MK2 and some early MK2S used one type of heatbreak and then we swapped for another version, which worked better during multimaterial prints.

Thank you Jakub, in theory then I would be able to put the E3D V6 hot end that came out the MK2/S(late 2017 model) by replacing the or inserting a 41 mm length of PTFE?

Hi Andre, yes if you have a late 2017 MK2S, your hotend should be MMU compatible (for some time the heatbreak was marked red, look between the heatsink and heater block).
