I haven’t found filament loading to be a “nightmare”, but it does take some effort. I seem to have been able to get better at it with a bit of practice. While it is harder than loading filament directly into the extruder, it isn’t going to be an impediment.
One thing that might help is if the laser-cut buffer plates were clear rather than black. That would allow you to see where the filament is headed so you could try twisting it or adjusting your approach.
Filip, can you confirm that the endstop block is not needed for a MK3->MK3S updrade?
I received an endstop block with my upgrade kit, and I think I see where it would fit, but it looks like it would limit X travel a bit.
I’m going to assume this part is only used for the MK2.5 upgrade and ignore it, but please confirm.
I recommend a trick used by machinists to set the cutter height: Place a piece of paper on the heatbed and lower the extruder until you can no longer wiggle the paper under the nozzle. Then raise the left Z drivescrew until the paper just moves again. Then move the extruder to the right wiggling the paper the whole time - if it binds, just raise the right Z drivescrew until the paper unbinds. Once the extruder is fully to the right, “touch off” the right drivescrew (lower it until the paper binds and then back off till it unbinds). Now it should be set nice and level with no risk of scratching the heatbed. You can use the same paper as a shim under the zip tie in step 3 below.
I need to arrange the printer with the spools on the right side instead. I assume the only adjustment I need to make is to swap which side gets spacers and which side gets spacer-hooks, but everything else (the connections and filament ordering) stays the same?
Oh no! My wife ate all my Haribo while I wasn’t looking. I am concerned my printer will not operate correctly if I don’t consume the correct number of treats after each step!
I have the original PINDA that was removed during the extruder disassembly - it matches the picture and has 4 wires. The upgrade kit also came with a new PINDA sensor that has a black tip and only 3 wires. I’ll proceed with the 4-wire sensor, but you should indicate if the sensor is expected to be reused from the old extruder or is expected to come from the upgrade parts.
The instruction “there is a set of the Bondtech gears.” is unclear - is this a new set from the upgrade kit, or the old set from the extruder disassembly? I assume this is the old recovered set…
